This 30 acre park began as 10 acre recreational park in the 1840s and expanded by 21 acres in 1867 as a military parade ground. It was named for former Georgia Governor John Forsyth. It is home to a Confederate Memorial, a theatre, tennis courts, basket ball courts, volleyball courts, playgrounds, a cafe and the Forsyth Fountain. It also hosts an awesome farmers market, various artists, and special events.
We strolled the walkway through the busy Farmers Market and found some yummy treats. Rutabagas, greens, broccoli, various lettuces, potatoes, and of course a sweet roll for Mark.
The special event today is an extravagant wedding for at least 800 guests. There were tents set up for dining (including big screen tv's so everyone can see the happy couple), dancing, a bar (complete with lounge chairs, sofa's, standing tables, a dance floor and mounted wildlife covering the backdrop of the bar) and a kitchen.
The theatre stage was surrounded by more candles, of various sizes, than we could count. There was even a carousel being set up for the event. It was only 11am so who knows what else will be set up by the time the nuptials take place.

A couple were having their engagement photos taken. We enjoyed watching them pose as directed. We interacted a little with them, got some chuckles, and wished them a long healthy union.
In 1911, Juliette Low met Robert Baden Powell, founder of the Boy Scouts, in England. He recruited her to become involved in the Girl Guides, and in 1912 she returned home to Savannah to start the movement in the US. In this district there are three sites significant to Girl Scouts. The Wayne-Gordon House, Andrew Low House and the Low carriage house (the first GS Headquarters).
The Girl Scout First Headquarters building, formerly the carriage house for Juliette Gordon Low's adult home, was willed to the GS of Savannah upon hr death in 1927. The headquarters is now a museum, program center and GS shop. The Cadette uniform on the right center is what Kathleen wore many years ago.
The house entrance is set almost above the trees. The basement area at street level serves as the GS store.
The Birthplace is owned by Girl Scouts of the USA which it purchased in 1953. It was Savannah's first National Historic Landmark in 1965. The house serves as a portal to the Girl Scout Movement, a historic house museum, and Girl Scout store.
