We drove a few hours through national forests to get to the South Rim. It was a very busy day and we drove quite a distance along the rim road to find a place to park.
To get to the canyon views we had to take a nice stroll through the forest.
We were all alone and Biscuit had a good time smelling everything along the way.
Biscuit checked out our lunch spot, we took a selfie and then had lunch with a fantastic view.
Photos can not convey the color, depth or vastness of the majestic canyon.
See the snow lingering in the shady areas?

Have a little stand off with this bold raven.

Kathleen's crazy pic with cell phone through the binoculars.
Not bad for silliness.
800 Year Old Pueblo Indian site.
Tusayan Kiva and Storage room ruins.
The kiva was a ceremonial room. It was used for storage, ceremonies, rites and festivals. The center was a fire-pit and the u-shaped area towards bottom of picture was a bench(called a banquette). The rock form toward top center was a vent. And although hard to see in the picture, a Sipapu (hole near fire-pit with a stone cover), a symbolic spirit entrance to the world below. The roof of the Kiva would have been domed and have a hole directly over the fire-pit
Ephedra, a gymnosperm shrub commonly called Mormon Tea.
Used for medicinal purposes (asthma, cold and allergy)
We took a picture of this idiot's selfie as a remembrance for his family! He made it back up to the rim, this time!
