Petroglyph National Monument, in the Boca Negra Canyon protects on the the largest petroglyph sites in North America. The designs and symbols carved onto volcanic rocks by Native Americans and Spanish settlers 400-700 years ago. The images are a valuable record of cultural expression and hold spiritual significance for Native Americans and the descendants of the early Spanish settlers.
